  24.    1. The X-WinPro/Win32 5.3/Release:20000425 Installation
  25.    =======================================================
  26.  
  27. To install the package, run the "xwp32.exe" file.
  28.  
  29. NOTES:
  30.      1) the XWPNFS32/Win9x Client may be installed only by using
  31.         the "Custom" installation mode;
  32.      2) the beta 2 XWPNFS32 NFS-Client for Windows 2000 is installed manually.
  33.         Please refer to the "nfsc2k_b.txt" readme file and the
  34.         "nfsc2k_b.exe" self-extracting archive file.
  35.         These files may be found into the directory with uncompressed
  36.         X-WinPro/ProNFS package distributive.

  38.  
  39.    2. Major differences from the 5.2/Release:20000131 version
  40.    ==========================================================
  41.  
  42. 2.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  43.  
  44.   2.1.1. XServer:
  45.     - the rgb.txt colors description file was renovated;
  46.     - the croatian.kmf file was added to the keyboard list;
  47.     - the XAPPGROUP Extension was implemented;
  48.     - the XWP_HWND property was added (temporary?) now to each top-level
  49.       window of X-Clients. The value of this property is the actual
  50.       HWND 32-bits handle of the corresponding MS Windows window.
  51.       To check that you can run "xterm", execute a command line "xprop"
  52.       and point to the xterm's window. Note, that this debug feature
  53.       is not available in the "Single"/"Full Screen" modes;
  54.     - the standard WM_NORMAL_HINTS(w/h_inc) property processing
  55.       was implemented and the resizing of xterm is correct now.
  56.     - the multi-threads mode of GLX was implemented.
  57.       So the one-GLX client limitation is removed now;
  58.     - the GLX in Single screen mode was implemented;
  59.     - the GLX Single-Buffer mode was implemented
  60.       to provide operating of old OpenGL X-Clients;
  61.     - an X-Client is able now to create a few GLX windows;
  62.     - the "Fonts..." facility can make the "Resolve Font" action
  63.       with the "*" characters in pattern.
  64.  
  65.   2.1.2. XSettings:
  66.     - some earlier only-manually controlled settings were added
  67.       (GLX Extension settings, mouse wheels using settings...).
  68.  
  69.   2.1.3. XStartup:
  70.     - XStartup supports the "rlogin" protocol now.
  71.  
  72.   2.1.4. Ftp:
  73.     - the standard "PASV"(passive) mode is supported now.
  74.       It is actual for PCs which are behind proxies.
  75.  
  76.   2.1.5. NFS-Server:
  77.     - the "*" characters are allowable into the IP address
  78.       of the "Export"->"NFS User Access"->'Host' items.
  79.  
  80.   2.1.6. NFS-Client for Windows 9x:
  81.     - the Lock/Unlock files requests ignoring mode was implemented.
  82.       Some popular MS Windows programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel )
  83.       do not work if they cannot set the mentioned file states.
  84.  
  85.   2.1.7. NFS-Client for Windows 2000:
  86.     - the beta 2 XWPNFS32 NFS-Client for Windows 2000 was added into the package.
  87.  
  88.   2.1.8. Telnet:
  89.     - the new manual "[TELNET]"/"ALTforEMACS=1" setting allows
  90.      to use the ALT key in EMACS;
  91.     - Telnet sends now an additional information to Telnet daemon
  92.      so as some popular programs (DECO, MC, EMACS) might use all
  93.      available lines of the current Telnet screen. This improvement
  94.      has meaning when the non-24 lines/screen setting (i.e., 36- or 48-) is used.
  95.  
  96.   2.1.9. The run-time "User's Manual" was renovated.
  97.  
  98.  
  99. 2.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  100.  
  101.   2.2.1. XServer:
  102.     - the "Fonts..." facility makes "Resolve Font" correctly when
  103.       FontServer connected;
  104.     - the "Fonts..." facility may crash when "Show font List"->"Browse"
  105.       action was chosen.
  106.     - the incorrect GLX(OpenGL) glFlush processing was fixed;
  107.     - memory leakage with some Windows NT TCP/IP took place.
  108.       (see also the "xwpwsock.dll" item below);
  109.     - the incorrect XConfigureWindow processing under "TrPW2" mode
  110.       was fixed;
  111.     - XServer+KDE (w/o XDMCP) "ate" 100% CPU activity.
  112.  
  113.   2.2.2. xwpwsock.dll:
  114.     - memory leakage with some Windows NT TCP/IP took place with Xserver.
  115.       It is the WinSock API problem of some WinNT4 and/or Win2000.
  116.       The problem is in the "WSAAsyncSelect()" request.
  117.       This standard request "eats" about 128 bytes per each set/unset call;
  118.  
  119.   2.2.3. Ftp:
  120.       - incorrect showing of HP filelist with very long files was fixed.
  121.  
  122.   2.2.4. Comsetup:
  123.     - the "ws2_32.dll" is the default WinSock API DLL for all WinNT systems
  124.       (to use the WSAEventSelect() request of WinSock2 API).
  125.  
  126.  
  127.    3. Major differences 5.2/Release:20000131 from 5.1/Release:990907 version
  128.    ==========================================================================
  129.  
  130. 3.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  131.  
  132.   3.1.1. XServer:
  133.      - the "Options"->"Fonts..." service provides better WINFONTS processing;
  134.      - the XDMCP broadcast window (list of XDMCP daemons hosts) is refreshed
  135.        more accurately;
  136.      - the XServer/"Multiple" has the new "TrPW2" mode (see below) when
  137.        the local window manager provides generally used behavior.
  138.        In this mode, each top-level non-popup X window has the parent window
  139.        which are controlled by the window manager. This mode was implemented
  140.        to make some modern inaccurately developed X-programs
  141.        and X-window toolkits to work (especially - some JAVA-based X-programs).
  142.      - In some cases (e.g., for TTSSH), the remote XDMCP daemon must
  143.        use the "virtual" value of XServer Display Number.
  144.        The corresponding setting was implemented (see below).
  145.      - XServer sends now the corresponding X "ClientMessage"
  146.        to all X-Clients' windows with "WM_PROTOCOLS"->"WM_DELETE_WINDOW" atom
  147.        when a user terminate XSession. This feature makes "softer" the
  148.        process of X-Clients closing.
  149.      - the "MseKbdSecondly=2" mode was implemented (see below).
  150.        This feature may suppress the focus-problem when your network
  151.        (or X-Client machine) is slow and XServer processes the mouse
  152.        "ButtonRelease" event before it receives the
  153.        "AllowEvents"/"GrabKeyboard" requests from the corresponding X-Client.
  154.      - the "GLX" X-Extension was implemented as an evaluation limited
  155.        feature (see below). Only one OpenGL "GLX" X-Client may run
  156.        in each moment.
  157.      - the standard Windows Sockets "getpeername()" request may be blocked
  158.        in some MS Windows NT systems for non-administrative users.
  159.        This function returns the IP address and port number of peer
  160.        side (i.e., remote side) of established connection.
  161.        XServer now detects that this "getpeername()" request is blocked
  162.        and avoid its using, but in this case the "Access Check" by host
  163.        will allow access from any remote host.
  164.  
  165.   3.1.2. LPD server:
  166.      - the AIX "Rembak" print service may be used now (see below).
  167.        The sending the "/usr/lib/lpd/rembak" binary file is skipped;
  168.      - the "TextUnixToDos=..." setting provides additional conversion
  169.        of received text-files from Unix to DOS end-lines format;
  170.      - the "FilterIsV=..." setting provides the "v" type
  171.        (i.e., no conversion) to ALL incoming data files;
  172.      - The <iniFontFace>, "Courier New", "Courier", "" font face priority
  173.        is supported, where <iniFontFace> is the font face name from
  174.        the "FontFace=..." setting of the ini-file (see below).
  175.      - The "Network Printers" using logic was changed. The "Refresh"
  176.        button (for network printers) was implemented. The list of network
  177.        printers is saved into the ini-file and is not refreshed each time LPD
  178.        starts (only by the "Refresh" button of the "Add Printer" dialog).
  179.  
  180.   3.1.3. NFS-Client:
  181.      - the "pingnfs.exe" utility was implemented to show all accessible
  182.        NFS-Servers.
  183.  
  184.   3.1.4. Installation procedure:
  185.      - the "Only Configure" Installation mode was added.
  186.        It is the "true" configuration-only mode.
  187.  
  188.   3.1.5. Network support:
  189.      - the "virtual" local IP address may be set now (see below)
  190.        for TTSSH and other proxy-like cases.
  191.  
  192.  
  193. 3.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  194.  
  195.   3.2.1. XServer:
  196.      - the "Access Check" by host rejected all requests via lbxproxy;
  197.      - the non-actual XDMCP/broadcast unwanted messages are suppressed now;
  198.      - under non-US MS Windows XServer in the "Multiple+remoteWM" mode
  199.        wrongly processed the "AltGr" key pressing after focus toggling between
  200.        windows;
  201.      - XServer may crash because of the wrong processing
  202.        of the "XListFontsWithInfo" X-protocol requests for Pseudo-fonts
  203.        (e.g., with XView/Solaris2.7 X-Clients).
  204.  
  205.   3.2.2. XStartup:
  206.      - makes now the "inet_addr()" request before "gethostbyname()".
  207.      - XStartup crashes if job icon is activated but the corresponding
  208.        section in the "joblist.ini" file is absent.
  209.  
  210.   3.2.3. NFS server:
  211.      - correct access to System/Hidden files is provided.
  212.        The hidden or system file doesn't get "permission denied" message;
  213.      - correct access to opened files (such as running executable) is provided.
  214.  
  215.   3.2.4. NFS-Client for Windows 9x:
  216.      - NFS-Client under Win98 may crash the machine after screen-saver occurs;
  217.      - NFS-Client may give incorrect file length after
  218.        explore->"Property" action.
  219.  
  220.   3.2.5. Ftp:
  221.      - incorrect Y2K files date sorting on local side was fixed.
  222.      - incorrect processing of files/directories links with the '-' symbols
  223.        in names was fixed;
  224.      - incorrect processing of "dirname -> ." links was fixed;
  225.  
  226.  
  227.    4. Major differences from the 5.0/Release:981208 version
  228.    ========================================================
  229.  
  230. 4.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  231.  
  232. 4.1.1. XServer:
  233. - the X11R6.4 release was implemented, only one new Extension
  234.   ("LBX") yet was implemented;
  235. - the new "Multiple+remoteWM" mode is implemented.
  236.   It is the old "Multiple" mode, but local Windows window manager
  237.   does not control windows of X-clients and user must run
  238.   any suitable remote window manager. This mode is very convenient 
  239.   when user uses CDE-like interface where remote window manager 
  240.   provides its own tool/task bar;
  241. - additional "7x13euro" and "7x13eurB" fonts were added in "MISC"
  242.   fontset to provide for displaying the new "Euro" currency sign showing;
  243. - the host chooser dialog was implemented for the XDMCP broadcast mode;
  244. - some X-clients (e.g. ICQ/JAVA with JDK 1.1) start input/output
  245.   from/to its windows only after receiving the "ReparentWindow" X-event
  246.   (which is the result of typical Unix window manager activity).
  247.   Earlier XServer did not make such an action in the "Multiple" mode,
  248.   so all windows of some X-clients were empty;
  249. - the "_MOTIF_WM_HINTS" window property is processed now.
  250.   Earlier some X-clients (e.g. ImageMagic/Linux) might work incorrectly,
  251.   have incorrect view and/or fully "hang-up" the X-session;
  252. - the wait timeout of "Middle Button Emulation" mode is tunable now;
  253. - since some Windows 95 TCP/IP stacks (e.g. "Microsoft wsock32.dll,
  254.   ver2.2, 32bit of Jun 6 1997, at 14:08:43") provide wrong processing
  255.   of the standard "select()" non-wait request, so using of mentioned
  256.   "select()" WinSock API request was removed;
  257. - the immediate "link" between Windows clipboard and current XSelection
  258.   was implemented;
  259. - the recommended "Alt_R+E" combination was inserted into the main part of
  260.   kmf-files to provide for the possibility to input the Euro currency sign;
  261. - XServer provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  262.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  263. - XServer can now work in new MSB(MostSignificant Byte/Bit)-first mode.
  264.   This MSB mode is actual for X-clients which incorrectly use
  265.   XPutImage/XGetImage X-operations (e.g. the viewer of CDE/SunSolaris
  266.   startup picture).
  267.  
  268. 4.1.2. XStartup:
  269. - some improvements were made.
  270.  
  271. 4.1.3. NFS-Server:
  272. - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally to  
  273.   IP addresses of actual NFS-Clients;
  274. - NFS-Server provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  275.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  276.  
  277. 4.1.4. Telnet:
  278. - some improvements were made (including some changes in the 
  279.   "terminfo.ini" file).
  280.  
  281. 4.1.5. Ftp:
  282. - the "VMS" remote host type is processed correctly, the 
  283.   "Show hidden files" setting controls showing VMS file versions.
  284.  
  285. 4.1.6. NFS-Client:
  286. - NFS-Client is installed by using the same Installation procedure 
  287.   without necessity to use "xwpnfs32.inf" file and "Control Panel";
  288. - corresponding hostnames are shown additionally
  289.   to IP addresses of NFS-Servers. This feature is controlled 
  290.   by corresponding On/Off setting to prevent timeouts 
  291.   because of possible DNS accessibility problems;
  292. - NFS-Clients might work incorrectly with non-mapped disks 
  293.   under Windows95/OSR2;
  294. - the "NFS-Servers list" was implemented additionally to the broadcast 
  295.   method of locating remote NFS-Servers. This list is the only 
  296.   way to connect NFS-Server which is out of the LAN (i.e. "old-style" 
  297.   broadcast method could not provide the visibility of such servers);
  298.  
  299. 4.1.7. Lpd:
  300. - Lpd now can process print jobs with primaryly undefined data length
  301.   (the length field is 0 in description of the input data file);
  302. - Lpd provides German and/or French messages and text labels
  303.   under the corresponding Windows national version.
  304.  
  305. 4.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  306.  
  307. 4.2.1. XServer:
  308. - XServer in Multiple mode worked incorrectly with CDE/Solaris-7;
  309. - the message "Cannot create XWPserver class" might occur in 
  310.   XServer's start moment;
  311. - XServer in Multiple mode showed incorrectly color icons of X-clients;
  312.  
  313. 4.2.2. XStartup:
  314. - a password with the 'P'("capital P") letter at the first and last 
  315.   places was saved wrongly;
  316.  
  317. 4.2.3. NFS-Server:
  318. - NFS-Server provided 100% CPU usage;
  319. - NFS-Server crashed after receiving of the "CALLIT" request.
  320.   This request is the result of Unix "rup","rwho" or "rusers" commands;
  321. - the memory leaking (after each "ls -R" Unix command) was fixed;
  322.  
  323. 4.2.4. Telnet:
  324. - some bugs were fixed (including wrong cursor positioning in some cases);
  325.  
  326.  
  327.    5. Major differences 5.0/Release:981208 from 4.3/Release:980730 version
  328.    =======================================================================
  329.  
  330. 5.1. The following enhancements have been made:
  331.  
  332.   5.1.1. The NFS-Client/Win95 was implemented.
  333.  
  334.   5.1.2. XServer:
  335.      - the max.integral length of the "FontPath" items was enlarged
  336.        from 250 to 2040 symbols;
  337.      - the "HP-Roman8" fontset was added in the package;
  338.      - the "TrueColor" (16 and/or 24 bits per pixel) Visual
  339.        was implemented;
  340.      - the last chosen XSelection name is preserved as the current
  341.        one for using in next X-sessions;
  342.      - the renovated "olcursor" font was changed in "MISC" fontset to prevent
  343.        the "imagetool" crash because of absence a few cursor fonts;
  344.      - the renovated "CDE" and new "OPWN" fontsets were added to supply
  345.        some CDE programs and JAVA applets with necessary correct fonts;
  346.  
  347.   5.1.3. XStartup:
  348.      - the absolutely new outlook was implemented.
  349.  
  350.   5.1.4. NFS-Server:
  351.      - the 32K maximum data size (for NFS-3 protocol) was implemented;
  352.      - the correct refreshing of files/directories cache was implemented;
  353.  
  354.   5.1.5. Ftp:
  355.      - the "VM/CMS" remote host type was added;
  356.  
  357.   5.1.6. Comsetup:
  358.      - the "TCP/IP Info" feature was added to test the accessibility
  359.        and to obtain a description of the used TCP/IP stack;
  360.      - the "Use First IP address" and "Use Last IP address" settings
  361.        were added to automatically choose the local IP address
  362.        if your PC has a few IP addresses (i.e. "multi-home" PC);
  363.  
  364.   5.1.7. Telnet:
  365.      - the Telnet buffer was significantly enlarged to provide
  366.        for correct "Paste" actions.
  367.  
  368.  
  369. 5.2. The following bugs have been fixed:
  370.  
  371.   5.2.1. XServer:
  372.      - the "Infinite Loop" message might occur in "Multiple"
  373.        window mode (e.g. using the "dtmail" program);
  374.      - the "AltGR+key" Composers were processed incorrectly;
  375.      - the "Copy XSelection" was blocked after XServer reset;
  376.      - the "KEY40" was corrected in the "danish.kmf" and "norvegia.kmf"
  377.        keyboard mapping files;
  378.      - the resizing/dragging in "Multiple" window mode of X-client's
  379.        windows was invisible up to release the mouse button
  380.        (if MS Windows video driver was in "Show window contents while dragging"
  381.        mode );
  382.      - the "... error refcount..." message might occur after
  383.        XServer+CDE reset;
  384.      - the XServer might crash during the choosing of the "Fonts..."
  385.        facility if a FontServer was in XServer FontPath;
  386.      - some CDE X-Clients wrongly viewed PseudoFonts because of
  387.        partially incorrect description of producing characters.
  388.  
  389.   5.2.2. NFS-Server:
  390.      - some problem with files permissions were resolved.
  391.  
  392.   5.2.3. Telnet:
  393.      - the incorrect "Copy" from the bottom line of Telnet window
  394.        was fixed.
  395.  
  396.   5.2.4. Ftp:
  397.      - a few bugs (including the incorrect show of more than 2000 year)
  398.        were fixed.
  399.  
  400.  
  401.       6. Undocumented Features
  402.     ------------------------
  403.  
  404.   6.1. XServer and XSettings:
  405.      - the empty, or "255.255.255.255" or "0.0.0.0" contents
  406.        of the "Broadcast File" field provides now the "natural"
  407.        XDMCP broadcast mode when users need not fill in any file
  408.        (see also the "The following enhancements have been made"/XServer
  409.        above);
  410.      - the "Auto Clipboard Copy&Paste" check box controls
  411.        the mode of connection between the Windows clipboard
  412.        and current XSelection;
  413.      - the "Image Format" setting sets
  414.        the XServer's imageByte- and bitmapBit- orders to MSB or LSB state.
  415.        These settings are actual for X-clients which incorrectly use
  416.        XPutImage/XGetImage X-operations (e.g., the viewer of CDE/SunSolaris
  417.        startup picture).
  418.      - the "Use Mouse Wheels" setting provides processing of mouse wheel
  419.        rotation.
  420.        Note that mouse wheels do not take effect in the non-maximized
  421.        "Single" mode (because of Scroll Bars existence) .
  422.      - the "GlxExtension" box should be checked to enable
  423.        the "GLX" extension.
  424.  
  425.   6.2. XServer:
  426.      - the "Restore"/"Minimize" menu items of XServer in "Multiple+remoteWM"
  427.        mode provides "visibility" of XServer's background into additional
  428.        non-large window. This "background" may be used to provide control
  429.        functionality of the windows manager used (usually it is pressing on
  430.        mouse-buttons);
  431.      - the "TrPW2=2" line should be added into the "[XSETUP]"
  432.        section to set the new "TrPW2" mode.
  433.      - the "MseKbdSecondly=2" line
  434.        should be added into the "[XSETUP]" section
  435.        to suppress the focus-problem when your network is slow;
  436.      - the "DisplayNumberForXDMCP=..." setting provides
  437.        the "virtual" value of XServer Display Number. This value is sent
  438.        to remote XDMCP daemon instead of real value. This setting
  439.        is actual for X-proxy - like programs (e.g. TTSSH).
  440.  
  441.   6.3. XStartup:
  442.      - the processing of the "Command" and "Command File" fields
  443.        is more clear now.
  444.  
  445.   6.4. LPD server:
  446.      - the "EnableRembak=1" line into "[LPDAEMON]" section enables to use
  447.        the AIX "Rembak" print service.
  448.      - the "TextUnixToDos=1" line into "[LPDAEMON]" section provides
  449.        the Unix->DOS text conversion for text data files.
  450.      - the "FilterIsV=1" line into "[LPDAEMON]" section provides the "v" type
  451.        (i.e. no conversion) to ALL incoming data files;
  452.      - The "FontFace=..." line into "[LPDAEMON]" sets up the preferred
  453.        font face name.
  454.  
  455.   6.5. NFS-Server:
  456.      - the "[NFSSERVER]"/"NameConvertMode=0..3" was implemented
  457.        but has not tested yet. Modes: 3 - "as earlier", 2 - "upper case",
  458.        1 - "lower case", 0 - "as is".
  459.  
  460.   6.6. NFS-Client for Windows 9x:
  461.      - may be installed manually after X-WinPro installation
  462.        from "XWPNFS32.W95" subdirectory of installed X-WinPro directory
  463.        (see "XWPNFS32.W95\readme" text file for more information);
  464.  
  465.   6.7. NFS-Client for Windows 2000:
  466.      - may be installed manually after X-WinPro installation
  467.       (see the top of this readme file).
  468.  
  469.   6.8. Network support:
  470.      - the "[NETWORK]"/"MyIP=..." line provides
  471.        the "virtual" local IP address.
  472.  
  473.   6.9. Telnet:
  474.      - the telnet.exe may be run with the "hostname" parameter
  475.        to avoid necessity to enter the hostname interactively;
  476.  
  477.  
  478.         7. Known problems
  479.         ------------------
  480.  
  481.   7.1. XServer:
  482.      - drawing of partial arcs may be very slow ;
  483.      - the CDE/XDMCP of the HP-UX host may provide infinite
  484.        waiting for connection. To avoid this, the new "HP" fonts
  485.        alias directory should be included into the XServer FontPath;
  486.      - the "Forced Backing Store" setting may provide wrong
  487.        screen re-displaying in some cases (e.g., Netscape scrolling).
  488.  
  489.   7.2. Lpd:
  490.      - printers on the remote Windows NT 4 hosts
  491.        are unavailable from the local host with Windows NT 4 .
  492.  
  493.   7.3. NFS-Server:
  494.      - may have problems on PCs with several IP addresses;
  495.      - some Linux NFS-3 Clients may provide an error message
  496.        (about wrong file ID) because of wrong packets unwrapping
  497.        in the Linux's "nfs3xdr.c" module.
  498.  
  499.   7.4. NFS-Client for Windows 9x:
  500.      - PC must restart after you changed the license
  501.        "xwpdllid.dll" file.
  502.  
  503.   7.5. Uninstallation:
  504.      - uninstallation procedure does not remove components
  505.        which were installed in additional (non-first) installation
  506.        sessions. Such additional components should be removed manually.
  507.  
  508.      8. WinPro 5.3 Price List
  509.      --------------------------
  510.

  561. There are a number of ways to order X-WinPro from us. Whatever
  562. method you choose, your order must be accompanied by an Order
  563. Form. When we receive your payment, we will email you license 
  564. files with the installation instructions.

  566. CREDIT CARD
  567. We accept VISA, MasterCard, EuroCard and OKCard. For credit 
  568. card orders we recommend using our secure web order form 
  569. located at http://www.labf.com or alternatively sending the 
  570. details by fax to +358 3 260 4444.

  572. If you are using e-mail or a fax modem, a signature is not
  573. required on the Order Form.

  575. CHECK
  576. You can post us a check drawn on any bank in the world, in that
  577. country's currency. The amount should be equivalent to the
  578. price in US$. The check should be made out to Labtam Finland Ltd.

  582. INTERNATIONAL MONEY ORDER/BANK DRAFT
  583. These are normally available from banks or Post Offices. The
  584. draft should be payable to Labtam Finland Ltd. The currency of
